Help with potted herbs?

Bought 12 pots of herbs a week ago, for potting on, & all looked very healthy. Compost in post was damp. Have kept indoors & in original pots for time being. Some started to look a little limp, so checked under bottom of pots through drainage holes & compost seemed dry, plus some roots had come through. Stood pots in a little water to replenish, now they look worse! Herbs are mint, oregano, chives, parsley, basil & thyme. Is there anything I can do to resurrect them/dry out/help them flourish?
