Nasty youths? what would you have done?

the other night it was raining and we heard loud talking outside, there were two youths sheltering from the rain in my porch! We opened the door and asked them what did they think they were doing (it was a bit of a cheek!). If they had apologised and said sheltering, we might have been ok with it providing they were quiet, but they gave my husband the most awful mouthful of abuse! He explained that their noise had woken the kids but they just shouted and swore, when my husband threatened to call the police they just shouted "what the eff are they gonna do?". I was really scared they might have pulled a knife on us, so i just shut the door, but they i was scared all night that they might have come back and damaged the car or put a window through or something. What would you have done?
